How Can I Use EFT to Lose Weight?
by Kay Christopher, MA, EFTCert-II, Certified EFT Practitioner

When I first started using EFT with clients about weight loss issues I didn’t know what to expect. Already I’d seen amazing results with many other issues such as pain relief, flu, anger, and heartache. Because EFT addresses the energy system of the body it offers the possibility of positive change for so many issues and I was excited to see what it offered for those wanting to lose weight.

It’s been thrilling to see the results. One client has been gaining 15-20 pounds each year for several years. Since addressing her weight issues with EFT she lost 15 pounds in a year instead of gaining. That is a difference of 30-35 pounds. She is losing weight very sensibly, eating a good diet and exercising regularly. What’s more, she doesn’t feel deprived and it is not taking “effort” to lose the weight. It is happening naturally now that she no longer has the energy blocks that were the cause of the behaviors she wanted to change. I have many other clients who have also had wonderful success with EFT for weight and body image issues.

How can EFT affect this kind of change? How can
you use EFT to address your weight issues?

When using EFT for weight loss there are a number of areas that can be addressed. Probably most important are your feelings about food and the emotions that underlie overeating. What is called the Discovery Statement in EFT is “The cause of all negative emotion is a disruption in the body’s energy system.” When you learn how to transform your emotions with EFT you begin to have emotional freedom. You begin to then have choices about your behavior that you didn’t have previously. For example, some people overeat because they are stressed about not having a significant other----or because they
do have a significant other and something about that relationship is really bothering them. When you clear the emotions surrounding the specific issues about “significant other” the feelings you had no longer drive you to food. You then have a choice about when and what you eat.

Some other areas that can be addressed include: food cravings; body image issues; feelings of deprivation, loneliness (emptiness), anxiety, guilt, etc.; safety issues; secondary gains (what benefit is there in keeping the extra weight?); triggers for compulsive overeating; and self-image/identity issues.

Recently I presented a workshop on EFT and in that workshop one participant “tapped” on her desire for chocolate. Later she told me that for many years she has eaten chocolate almost every day, and if she didn’t have it available to her in her home she would immediately go out and buy some. The amount of chocolate she was eating was making it impossible for her to lose weight. After the workshop she reported that she could “take it or leave it”. She no longer has to have chocolate available at home, and she can even watch other people eat it and choose whether she really wants to eat some or not. This change only took moments to produce with EFT. Once her energy system was clear in regard to chocolate her desire for it normalized.

Below is an example of how you might use EFT for weight loss using the “shortcut” version of EFT. (If you don’t already know EFT you can learn it here:
How To Do EFT.) These statements are very general and so may or may not produce any significant change in your behavior. They are meant as a starting place so you can get the idea of how to use EFT for weight issues.

Note: Before understanding how EFT works people sometimes don’t want to tap on negative statements, as they are afraid they may be “tapping them in”. But what EFT does is relieve disruptions in your energy system. If the “negative” is already there, it means there’s an energy block. Holding the negative thought in mind as you tap is what releases the disruption. Once the release happens you feel differently and have more emotional freedom and more choices in terms of behavior. To my knowledge you can’t “tap in negatives” with EFT because you are not tapping anything “in”. Instead you are releasing pre-existing blocks in the energy system.

Example of using EFT for weight loss

Rub sore spot or tap KC and repeat three times:
“Even though I don’t like carrying around this extra weight I deeply and completely love, forgive and accept myself.”

EB: “I don’t like carrying around this extra weight.”
SE: “I don’t like the way it feels.”
UE: “I feel too heavy.”
UN: “I’m tired of eating too much.”
Ch: “I want to weigh less.”
CB: “I choose to weigh less.”
UA: “I don’t like carrying around this extra weight”
TH: “I want to weigh less than this.”

EB: “I’m not sure I’ll ever be able to lose this weight.”
SE: “I forgive myself for overeating.”
UE: “I accept myself as I am.”
UN: “I accept that I can change.”
Ch: “I want to weigh less.”
CB: “I choose to weigh less.”
UA: “I forgive myself for overeating.”
TH: “And I love and accept myself as I am.”

Feel free to experiment with your own statements. This example is just a beginning point. And if you have questions please feel free to contact me at (512)795-9180 or
