What's a "One Minute Wonder"?
by Kay Christopher, MA, EFTCert-II, Certified EFT Practitioner

Sometimes EFT produces instantaneous and seemingly miraculous successes. Founder Gary Craig refers to these as “One Minute Wonders”. They sound unbelievable, however many people who use EFT have experienced them. I’m a little hesitant to tell you these stories because they sound far out. However, they really happened and many similar wonderful things have happened since!

The first time I used EFT on another person she experienced a One Minute Wonder. Cindy, a friend and colleague arrived for a meeting and announced she was in lot of back pain. She rated her pain 10 on a scale of 0-10 (10 being the highest). She said she could hardly think and could not concentrate because the pain was so intense.

I offered to perform EFT on her, letting her know I wasn’t sure whether it would help or not. She readily agreed, interested in anything that might sooth her pain. I applied the whole “Basic Recipe” to the problem (total time about one minute—I have since learned short cuts). Her pain went from a 10 to a 2. I applied EFT again, and this time her pain went to a 0.

Now, needless to say, both of us stood there in complete amazement. I had never experienced anything like this before in my life. You tap on someone’s body and their pain goes away? It was weird!

Very skeptical, I called Cindy three days later to inquire about her condition and she reported her back pain was still a zero. I called again about ten days after that. Still a zero. And a few months later she informed me that the pain had never returned because she had “identified the emotion that was causing it” and was addressing it at that level. Wow.

Another very impressive example is the time I was visiting a client who had asked me to assist her with emotional healing. As it happened, while I was visiting she was to be given one of a series of shots of medication that were extremely painful. The medication would create a burning feeling as it went in and then the burning sensation would spread. As the needle was being prepared my client squinched up her face in anticipation of the pain. I asked if she would like me to “tap” for her while she got the shot, having no idea what the result would be. She replied that she would like that very much. I took her hand and simply tapped over and over on one acupressure point.

The needle was inserted and the medication was administered. My client had a shocked and bewildered look on her face. ‘Kay,” she said, “There is
no pain. None.”

A few minutes later she said that she was feeling just a twinge of burning from the medication, and asked me to tap again. I tapped very briefly. The pain totally subsided and did not return.

One Minute Wonders apply not just to pain or physical issues. They also apply in the case of emotional issues. And, while they can be relatively common, many issues have multiple “aspects” (facets or pieces) that may take time and multiple applications of EFT to address.
